Thank you for choosing Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) for your stay abroad. On this page you will find useful information for your stay:
Once your home university has selected you to spend one or two semesters here at CUAS and has sent your official nomination by email to , we start reviewing your application.
We will prepare your letter of acceptance as soon as you have been accepted by your department at CUAS. Approximately by mid June we have sent out all letters of acceptance for the winter semester or the whole year. The document will always be sent by email. Letters for the sommer semester are always mailed in December.
In case you intend to write your final thesis at CUAS, please consider that we receive many enquiries of this nature. Make sure to send your letter of motivation, CV, transcript and an exposé of your thesis. Sending these documents via your home university ensures us that they are official.
Enrolment
As soon as you have arrived in Cologne, make sure to visit the International Office for your enrolment. In your letter of acceptance you find the responsible office for your enrolment. There you will find the information material which has been prepared for you. For your visit, please make sure to bring the following documents:
letter of acceptance (Zulassungsbescheid)
proof of health insurance*
1 passport-sized photo
* All students of CUAS must be medically insured. Please make sure that your health insurance from your home country covers all eventual costs in Germany. If you are from an EU country or from Norway, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, you can apply for the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) in your home country. In case you are not able to provide a valid health insurance from you home country, you will have to sign up for health insurance in Germany.
Erasmus Students
Erasmus students will need signatures on certain documents for their home university (e.g. Confirmation of Departure, Learning Agreement). Make sure to visit your departmental coordinator in your department or institute here at CUAS as well as the institutional coordinator in the International Office, Claudiusstr. 1, Raum A1.55 for these signatures.
German Courses for Exchange Students
Use your time here at Cologne University of Applied Sciences and broaden your language skills. The International Office organises different German courses for exchange students.
Semester Events
The International Office organises many events during the semester. Get an overview in our semester programme.
Karibu
The Karibu programme organises „mentors“ for those interational students who are new in Cologne and new at CUAS. Karibu helps you find the right „mentor“ for you who assists you during your stay here.
Language Exchange
The Language Exchange Tandem is a great way for two students from different countries to learn each other’s languages in a loose atmosphere. It furthermore is a good opportunity to improve your German skills and find out more about Cologne by getting into contact with students from Cologne. For German students the Language Exchange is a wonderful chance to improve their own skills in a foreign language.
