Institute of Social Law (ISR)
Social law is not an established term yet. It means much more than just social legislation and encompasses any law that has a socio-political purpose. Therefore, if social legisla-tion includes health insurance law, child and youth welfare law and social security law, then social law also comprises protection against unwarranted tenant eviction, protection against unlawful dismissal, protection against attachment of earnings, care, guardianship and curatorship, perpetrator-victim compensation and many other things. Social work, of which the main fields are social work and social pedagogy, also has certain goals, i.e. to promote self-determination, to alleviate poverty, to exercise the state's protection function (art. 6 (2) Basic Law). Where social work interacts with so-cial law, social work needs to follow the rule of law, i.e. it must comprise social and other legal benefits and conform to the rules and regulations of legal counselling. This is es-sential for the following fields of social work:
As an employment policy, we need to train professionals who meet these requirements. The traditional social worker or social pedagogue does not have sufficient legal expertise, the traditional legal expert does not have the psychosocial skills of a social worker/ social pedagogue. Hence, a new qualification comprising the know-how, skills and abilities of both professions without having to complete two courses of studies would be ideal. The mission of the Institute of Social Law is to engage in scientific and socio-political activities for this purpose.
